BOSTON, Jan. 10, 2011 — Carbonite ®,
a leading provider of online backup and
"anywhere, anytime access", today
announced the company is organizing
around its two key customer segments by
forming Consumer and Small Business
groups and has appointed senior
executives to head each of these lines
of business. Since June, the company has
also added seasoned executives to lead
its Product and Services groups.
- Swami Kumaresan,
formerly Carbonite's VP Marketing,
has been promoted to General Manager
of its Consumer Group. Kumaresan
joined the company as its fifth
employee in 2005 and has built its
marketing team and revenue engine
through radio, television, and other
programs. In his new role, he will
be responsible for the business
strategy and P&L of Carbonite's core
consumer business focused on the
personal, home and family market. In
2010, Kumaresan was named a finalist
for the Mass. Technology Leadership
Council's Emerging Executive of
the Year award and to the
Boston Business Journal's 40
under 40 list of emerging
business leaders.
- Peter Lamson,
previously senior vice president and
general manager for NameMedia's
Domain Marketplace and chief
operating officer of
Monstermoving.com, joins Carbonite
as General Manager of its Small
Business group. Lamson, who has
spent the majority of his career at
emerging growth companies focused on
the small-business market, will
drive the group's strategy, customer
acquisition and retention
activities.
- Bill Phelan,
formerly Group Product Manager at
Intuit, joined Carbonite as Vice
President of Product in June 2010
and is responsible for the company's
product strategy and execution
across customer segments. At Intuit,
Phelan was responsible for the
Intuit Partner Platform and Intuit
QuickBase, the No. 1 online database
for Web-based business applications.
Phelan also co-founded Veridiem, an
on-demand marketing analytics
service and has led product
management organizations for Unica
Corp., Quaero Corp., and Progress
Software.
- Richard Surace,
formerly senior vice president of
operations at PlumChoice, has been
named Carbonite's Vice President of
Services. He is responsible for
managing nearly 300 customer service
and technical support specialists
who assist customers through phone,
email, and live chat. Surace has
also held leadership positions at
Accent Call Centers Services, TAC
Worldwide, Inc., and and Contact
World/Service Zone USA.
"In an effort to enhance customer
centricity at Carbonite, we are
organizing around our key customer
segments, which will help us do a better
job of serving consumers and small
businesses," said Carbonite Chairman and
CEO David Friend. "Swami's team has
built a well-oiled consumer marketing
engine, and now it's time to bring the
same level of focus and energy to our
small-business segment. Pete's done this
at both NameMedia and Monster and really
understands the needs of small-business
customers and how to reach them." He
added, "Bill Phelan has already made
significant contributions to our
consumer and small-business product
strategy and its execution, and I am
confident Rich Surace will bring the
expertise, energy and discipline to
Carbonite that enabled him to deliver
off-the-charts customer satisfaction in
his previous role."
Carbonite launched its online backup
service in 2006 and in 2010, was ranked
the 9th fastest growing private company
in the U.S. in the Inc. 500 list, and
ranked No. 1 in IT Services. Last year
the company also earned the Tech Awards
Circle Gold Award for the consumer/small
office, home office (SOHO) service
category and Privately Held Company of
the Year honors from the Massachusetts
Technology Leadership Council.
